Es hat einen schlanken, l\u00e4nglichen K\u00f6rper mit relativ kurzen Beinen. Sein R\u00fccken ist braun, w\u00e4hrend sein Bauch wei\u00df ist. Es ern\u00e4hrt sich haupts\u00e4chlich von M\u00e4usen, kann aber auch Kaninchen, andere kleine S\u00e4ugetiere, V\u00f6gel, Vogeleier, Fische und Fr\u00f6sche jagen.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Auf Mallorca und Menorca kommt die Unterart Mustela nivalis boccamela vor, die relativ gr\u00f6\u00dfer ist. Sie ist nicht heimisch auf unseren Inseln, da sie von den R\u00f6mern eingef\u00fchrt wurde, wahrscheinlich um die Kaninchenpopulationen (die ebenfalls nicht heimisch sind) zu kontrollieren. Es wird angenommen, dass sie zum Aussterben der Eidechsen auf den Hauptinseln sowie der Menorca-Spitzmaus beigetragen hat. Auch die Populationen von Feldm\u00e4usen und Kellerratten sind davon betroffen.
