Grading

The walk begins with a leisurely walk along a viaduct overlooking Gorg Blau Reservoir. The path is well-defined and easy to negotiate. After approximately 90 minutes you veer off the path and begin your ascent through a dense wooded area. The path is rocky and steep in places, but the path is well marked and easy to follow. Above the tree line the terrain remains rocky, but the path is well marked with rock cairns and only in the final stages of the ascent is there any scrambling, although the ascent is gradual making this walk suitable for anyone with a good level of fitness.

Weather

The cancellation of a walk is rare, but it can happen, so it is important you understand our approach to adverse weather and our cancellation policy.

Ahead of any walk we will monitor the weather forecast closely. In most cases where there is light rain or rain is forecast, we will still go ahead with the walk, but naturally will only do so if we deem it safe and if everybody is suitably equipped. There are exceptions and rare occasions when we might cancel a walk. These include (but are not limited to):

  • A high risk of electrical storms
  • A recent heavy snowfall
  • Very high winds
  • Persistent heavy rain in the days leading up to the walk with no sign of improvement.

We stress again that such situations are rare; but in the event of a walk being cancelled, any deposit paid will of course be refunded (via PayPal or direct to your card). However, if there is an occasion when we go ahead with a walk but it is abandoned due to worsening conditions then you are still obliged to pay in full and no refund will be issued.

Equipment

Essential equipment:

  • Sturdy walking shoes/boots.
  • A suitably sized back pack which should contain: 2 litres (minimum) of water/fluids and plenty of high energy food.
  • A hat (suitable for protection against the sun and the cold).
  • Sunscreen and sun glasses on warmer days.
  • Durable trousers – preferably waterproof (while shorts can be worn during warm weather, you should be aware that most walks contain at least some scrambling and you may come into contact with sharp rocks and thorny bramble etc).
  • Light waterproof jacket or poncho.

Other useful equipment (optional):

  • Walking poles (will be provided by your guide should you not have them).
  • Binoculars.
  • Camera (your guide will also take some pictures which will be made available to you later).
  • Small medical kit (while your guide will carry with them a small medical kit, you might wish to bring your own, especially if you are prone to any particular medical condition for which special medication is required).
